Denver Auto Repair

Repairing your Car or Truck

At Colchin Automotive, when we repair a car or truck, our anticipation is that if we perform a high quality of service, we are not just sustaining our business today but for years down the road.  That's why educating our clients is a high priority for us as a business.  In an environment like Denver where vehicles spend almost spend as much time climbing vertical feet as they do horizontal, the use of gears in an automatic is appropriate.  One improvement that many drivers can make in this mountainous area is a proper use of Overdrive on an automatic transmission.

What is Overdrive?

Overdrive is an extra gear that allows vehicles to drive at higher speeds at lower rpm's resulting in greater engine efficiency at less wear and tear on the vehicle as a whole.  Your car or truck is programmed to find the gear in which to most efficiently operate when in overdrive.  The problem, however, is when climbing steep hills like Genesee or Lookout Mountain west of Denver, if your overdrive is on, your car is designed to shift to a higher gear once a certain rmp or speed is achieved.  Once this happens, your existing torque is lost and the vehicle responds shifting down again as you increase pressure on the gas pedal.  This back and forth action between gears on steep inclines leads to increased wear and tear over time and the increase likelihood that your transmission will need to be more quickly repaired and replaced.

Save your Maintenance and Repair Money

Colchin Automotive is in the business of helping car and truck owners repair their vehicles, but some repairs are just not as necessary if an owner is aware of proper vehicle operation as designed by a manufacturer.

Springtime Car Tune-Up

Springtime Auto Repair

It's late March in the Rockies again and time to welcome the budding trees, melting snow, and forest fires (not welcoming the fires so much).  Most importantly, it's time to tune up and repair that car, truck, or other vehicle that's been sitting and not accumulating many miles this winter.  Or you are ready to get your vehicle tuned for summer driving conditions.  Here are a few things to remember when choosing a repair shop to you up and running again.

Oil Change

Your car has seen the extreme's of Colorado winter driving conditions: the cold, snow melt chemicals, and the uv rays don't stop.  As a result, water condensations and other harmful acides can form in the engine oil.  Now that Spring is here, it's important to your vehicle to have it serviced, cleaned and tuned for Spring and Summer driving conditions. (more information on the value of improved auto performance efficiencies)

Scheduled Vehicle Maintenance

If you are like most car and truck owners, you may not be familiar with the scheduled maintenance recommendations made by your car's manufacturer.  We suggest the you find an auto repair shop like Colchin Automotive who will be able to provide a full review of your vehicles condition and provide a prioritized list of upcoming repairs that are recommended by the manufacturer and help you address the most critical issues.  Other places you can find this information:
  1.  Vehicle Owners Manual
  2.  Check your fluids and research the proper color of those fluids

Car Repair

Once you identify the services most needed by your vehicle, you have the choice of working on your car or truck yourself or taking it to a certified repair shop.  For best performance, vehicle owners should seriously consider taking it to a shop that will track vehicle maintenance data, work with them on prioritizing needed repairs, and work with a shop that values them.  Colchin Automotive, located in Arvada, will meet and exceed your expectations!
